Had a very nice weekend and so am in a mood to blog today after long.....actually there ain't too much work to be done and this is a good method to pretend as though you are working......:-))) little does anyone know what I am doing especially since now my monitor faces the window....
HMV sale was on and as usual I needed to visit it to check whether I cd buy any discounted DVDs.....Bought AfricanQueen.....stars Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart.....Ms Hepburn really looks old in the movie and Humphrey Bogart anways always looked old.... Mr. Bogart got an oscar for this role....its an adventure film....in which Katherine H plays a prim missionary in Zaire with her brother......Humphrey is an unkempt mail man who travels on his boat on the Amazon delivering mail......the movie is based during the First world war and Germans are all over the world asfar as Africa and they are on a wild spree capturing Africans and using them as soldiers.....They raid the village where the missionaries teach and raze it to the ground capturing all the locals.......Rosy(Katherine)'s brother dies from teh shock and Rosy has no alternative but to get out of the place and for this she takes the help of Humphrey ......the movie takes you through the travails they face as they move along the amazon across Africa.
Some scenes are pretty sweet .....one which comes to my mind is teh one where Rosy realises that she is falling for our hero......and how after one night of passion, the next morning ...instead of addressing him as Mr.....she addresses him as Dear.......it was so hilarious......but endearing.....
In all a nice adventure movie.......
On Saturday had been to the library and on an impulse checked the theatre at the Clocktower and found that it was playing ''The Motorcycle Diaries'' ...a movie which I was waiting to watch.....so decided to watch it on saturday evening.....
Its based on the diaries of Che Guevara which he maintained during his travels around South America before he became the revoloutionary of Cuba......The main hero of this film is South America and its landscapes......its a very greeen film...i.e takes you through lush Argentina, Chile, Cuba etc etc......Some of teh scenes are particularly beautiful and show some of the reasons why Guevara later in life decided to fight for Cuba's poor.....There is this one scene where on their travel they meet this couple who are travelling to a mine to find work......the wife asks our guys as to why they were travelling and these guys didnt have an answer...they said they were travelling just because they want to travel......and the wife looks at them and says''Bless you....Bless your travels''.....its so touching....cd make you cry......
another scene where they volunteer to work in a leper colony........the relationship that Che develops with some of the inmates of the colony is depicted extremely beautifully.....inall a nice watch......
On Sunday watched Hero.....a movie which I was waiting to watch......Its a beautifullllll movie......It stars one of my favourite Chinese actresses...Zhang Ziyi......the young girl in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon...... The movie is based on the times of the First emperor of China.....of the Qin dynasty......The emperor is trying to unite all the 7 provinces of the then China.....there isn't much story to the movie.......but its a would be tourist to China's delight......the locales are awesome......just awesome........the whole movie has been shot in China......people compare it to Crouchin tiger....but Crouchin Tiger hada strong storyline.....and the characterisation was strong and the martial arts and visual effects did not shadow the characters......however in this movie more stress is given to the visual effects and they are stunnning......the fight scenes are beautiful......the characters do not stand out......some of teh scenes are so awesome that its some time before you realise that you realise that u are watching teh movie with your jaws dropped......
The movie is extremely colourful...and teh director really knows how to create beauty using contrasting colours.......he has used all the primary colours of red, green and yellow.....but the effect is brilliant......
Its a must watch for anyone who liked Crouching tiger......
